This homemade turkey sausage recipe is better for breakfast, and it’s quick to prepare and significantly superior to store-bought turkey sausages.
Equipment for Making Turkey Sausage at Home
Ingredients:
- 1 lb Lean ground turkey (93% lean)
- 1 tbsp Fennel seeds
- 1 tbsp Dried sage
- 3โ4 tbsp Kosher salt
- 3โ4 tbsp Freshly ground pepper
- 1โ2 tbsp Thyme
- 1โ4 tbsp Garlic powder
- 1โ4 tbsp Red pepper flakes
- 1โ8 tbsp Nutmeg
- 1 pinch Cloves
Instructions:
- Measure all herbs and spices in a small bowl and whisk them together.
- Place ground turkey in a large bowl. Spread seasoning blend on top.
- Scrub your hands clean and gently incorporate the seasonings into the ground meat. Do not overmix, or the patties will become tough.
- Form 8 (2 oz) patties or 4 (4 oz) patties, depending on your desired serving size.
- Cook patties on a grill lightly brushed with oil or in a skillet with a tablespoon of olive oil. Cook until no longer pink inside but slightly juicy (about 3 minutes per side, depending on thickness). Do not overcook, or they will dry out.
- You can use this sausage blend in any stew, soup, chili, pasta dish, lasagna, or casserole.
Note:
- You can make turkey sausage patties in advance, refrigerate them between pieces of plastic wrap for up to 3 days, or freeze them individually. Defrost in the refrigerator overnight. You can also freeze cooked patties, but reheating them will result in a tougher texture.
